Final thoughts
The TFW Program is a useful tool that companies can use to help meet their labour force needs. The process is complex and requires a certain amount of expertise and experience. Some employers have found it useful to develop in-house specialized HR units with TFW expertise; others have chosen to use the support of industry associations. Whatever the route, employers should beware of quick fixes and short cuts: typically these will spell trouble for employers, or for TFWs once in Canada. As with any HR decision, hiring TFWs must be done carefully. Planning and employer involvement are critical. Executed properly, hiring TFWs can fill critical labour force gaps, and help businesses develop and grow.
